Today, Nottinghamshire will make an eagerly-anticipated return to one-day cricket after an enforced hiatus of 805 days.

The Green and Golds’ first assignment in this year’s Royal London Cup will be an away trip to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire. Ahead of today's encounter, trentbridge.co.uk looks at a long and storied head-to-head record between the two sides.

Outlaws have the edge

Since Notts first locked horns with Warwickshire in a one-day match in 1969, there have been 57 completed encounters between the two in List A cricket.

The Green and Golds boast the better record down the years, having won 33 of those to the Bears’ 24, with one no result, and are currently on a streak which has seen them win seven of the sides’ last eight meetings.

Happy hunting ground

Of those 57 matches, 29 have been played at Edgbaston, and historically the Outlaws have enjoyed their visits to the Second City, winning 16 games there.

An Edgbaston win percentage of 55% for Notts represents the joint-second-best record of all the first-class counties, with only Surrey (59%) and Essex (55%) having equal or better List A records in Birmingham.

The last time we met

Indeed, the most recent meeting between the sides took place at Edgbaston, and Notts emerged as crushing victors thanks to a Ben Slater century, ultimatelt triumphing by 118 runs.

Perennial Nottinghamshire performer Luke Fletcher, also made valuable contributions with both bat and ball, adding 32 off 22 as the Green and Golds set their hosts 302 to win.

He then snared figures of three for 21 as the Bears were bundled out for 183 inside 38 overs, with Notts ultimately going on to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Hosting the Bears at Welbeck

Warwickshire may never have hosted Notts at one of their outgrounds, but the Bears were given the pleasure of visiting the picturesque surroundings of North Nottinghamshire in 2015.

That match resulted in a comfortable win for the hosts, this time by nine wickets, as they made light work of a modest 222 target.

After Dan Christian had claimed five for 40 in his ten overs, Alex Hales and Riki Wessels put on an opening stand of 164 to swiftly see the hosts home with more than 20 overs to spare.
