A mature unbeaten 96 from Tom Moores kept Nottinghamshire in the contest on day three against Durham, with more fight required by his fellow batsmen tomorrow.
The 24-year-old wicketkeeper, who took to the crease with Notts 66-5 on day two, guided the home side to a first innings total of 267 at Trent Bridge; a deficit of 63 runs.
Notts were temporarily in the ascendancy when Brett Hutton and Luke Fletcher shared the early breakthroughs to reduce the north-eastern outfit to 78-4 second time around, but tons apiece for David Bedingham and Ned Eckersley led them to safety at 332-4 by the close.
Moores shared an 89-run stand for the eighth wicket with Hutton, who himself made a 71-ball half-century, before scoring 33 of the 37 runs added for the last two Nottinghamshire wickets. He had taken successive boundaries off Matt Salisbury to be only one shot away from his third career hundred when final partner Jake Ball was dismissed.
Ball’s injury kept him off the field as Durham began their second innings just before lunch but the Green and Gold's attack seemed hardly to miss him as Fletcher struck with his second ball to have Alex Lees leg before without scoring and Hutton then dismissed Scott Borthwick, caught at second slip, to leave the visitors reeling.
Mike Jones fell shortly afterwards but Bedingham looked sure-footed and, after a partnership of 56 with Jack Burnham had drawn Nottinghamshire’s sting, bought up his maiden first class ton.
Bedingham ended proceedings on 180* while batting partner Eckersley closed on 113*, leaving Notts the task of batting the remaining overs to earn a draw when Durham declare tomorrow.
