Nottinghamshire Head Coach Peter Moores say he can’t fault his side’s efforts over the four days at the Fischer County Ground after the Green and Golds’ were once again thwarted by the weather.

After losing a considerable amount of time in the contest due to the conditions, Notts had to settle for a second draw in consecutive fixtures despite holding the upper hand against both Lancashire and Leicestershire.

However, Moores is proud of the desire and commitment from his charges as attention turns to the Vitality Blast.

"The gusts of wind were heading straight down the ground, so poor Peter Trego was coming in off about four paces in the end to try and get to the wicket," he said.

"It’s very challenging to bowl in those conditions, but we were desperately keen to play, so it was good that we at least managed to get something on.

"Trego’s opening spell on the first day into a very strong wind was outstanding, because he found a way of being really effective.

"Zak Chappell, bowling with the wind, also bowled with real pace and control, and they were a great combination.

"Then that opening stand between Slater and Hameed was of real quality. There was more in the pitch at that stage, but they both left really well and they took the scoring opportunities that were available.

"And in the second innings, we saw Tom Barber starting to settle into his role of bowling with real pace. He didn’t have much luck, the pitch had died a little bit, but I was really pleased in how he started to grow into his role at the club.

"He’s starting to look much more relaxed on a First-Class field."

Nottinghamshire have put in a string of impressive performances picking up more bonus points than any other side in the competition.

That stat, and the numerous positive individual performances across the red-ball competition have Moores excited about the rest of the season.

"We’re learning really good habits now," he said.

"We’ve played four games which we’ve been very committed in. Every game has gone to the full four days and we’ve always dominated the first innings, so we've been in a position where we’ve been trying to bowl a side out to try and get over the line.

"We’ve played some really good cricket, and got some good bonus points, but the frustration has been that we haven't been able to get over the line with a win.

"In the last two games, when we’ve been in very strong positions and lost a day to rain, that’s especially tough. But the most important thing for me is we're learning the sort of habits you need to be a successful team."

Notts have just one clear day before returning to action, this time in coloured clothing as the Vitality Blast begins.

Moores feels the efforts of his side throughout the four-day campaign so far will benefit the squad in the shorter format.

"I think the momentum we will take from the red-ball season so far will mean a lot of the lads will go into the white-ball part of the season feeling good about their games," he said.

"They'll be frustrated that they haven't managed to get across the line and get a win, but a lot of batters are now in form, and similarly the bowlers have got miles in the legs, and I think that’s going to stand us in good stead."
