Trego prized out three early scalps before a brace of wickets for Samit Patel, Tom Barber and Zak Chappell, alongside one for Lyndon James helped bowl out the hosts for 222.
Ben Slater (12*) and Haseeb Hameed (34*) then shared in an unbroken 48-run opening stand to hand the Green and Golds the advantage after the opening exchanges in Leicester.
