Chris Gibson and Zak Chappell enjoyed some success in their supposedly weaker disciplines as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI played out a draw against Lancashire at Lady Bay.
Gibson took two wickets and Chappell hit 45 as the two sides started a new game on the second day of their friendly, with Lancashire scheduled to bat for 65 overs and Notts 35.
The red rose county’s opening duo made a positive start to the day, with Owais Shah and JJ Fielding sharing a 163-run stand for the first wicket.
The pair had reached 151-0 at the lunch interval, and it would take a further five overs to dislodge Shah, caught at mid-on off Zak Chappell for 67.
Joey Evison removed George Lavelle for a first-ball duck, but Fielding continued to accumulate, reaching 116 before miscuing a sweep off Chris Gibson.
Gibson also accounted for Danny Lamb (42), but quick runs from Stephen Parry (23) and Brooke Guest (8) pushed Lancashire to 209-4 after 65 overs.
In reply, the opening pair of Gibson (19) and Louis Bhabra (5) fell inside the opening six overs, and skipper Lyndon James (20) was the only other batsman to make double figures for the home side before Chappell and Jack Blatherwick supplied some late-order firepower.
Arriving with the score on 39-5, Chappell accelerated the run-rate, hitting five fours and a six before departing at the hands of Lamb.
Blatherwick maintained some momentum with a run-a-ball 29, in the company of Chappell and Kashif Ali, before hitting Lavelle to midwicket.
Notts were 144-8 at stumps, with Ali (3*) and Usman Arshad (4*) in the middle as 2.3 overs were lost to bad light.
