Jenny Gunn is preparing for a ‘special’ return to Lady Bay in a Nottinghamshire shirt, as the Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup arrives in the county for the first time this year.

Gunn rejoined her home county from Warwickshire last month, and it is the Bears who will provide the opposition this Sunday (11am start) on the banks of the Trent.

“It's going to be a very special day, although it will be a bit strange to be playing my old team,” said Gunn.

“I’ve kept in touch with a lot of the girls from Warwickshire, so I’ll probably get a bit of stick from both sides, but it’s an exciting game to be going into.”

Notts have enjoyed mixed fortunes in their games so far, winning one and losing two of their opening three fixtures.

But the right-armer has seen enough in the performances the side have put in so far to feel heartened.

“The defeat against Lancashire in the last game was disappointing, but to get the win against Sussex in the game before was great, because we know they’re a great team," she said.

“The first game against Kent was in the balance all the way as well, and as they’re one of the best teams in the competition it was encouraging.

“We’ve got an exciting team, and it’s been enjoyable being back – we just need to put right a couple of the things we didn’t do well against Lancashire to get another win on the board.”

While this will be Gunn’s return to the Notts Sports Ground in green and gold, she did make an appearance on Wednesday 15th May for England Women against the Nottinghamshire Academy.

Gunn took one wicket and scored 14* as the Academy triumphed by four wickets.

“The Academy gave us a really good game," she said.

“Jordan Cook in particular [who scored 120*] was good to bowl at because he punished your bad deliveries – if you missed your length, he’d smash you.

“It was very good practice for us, and it’s nice to see the level of talent that’s coming through the ranks at my home county.”

The friendly formed part of England’s warm-up for a summer of One-Day International cricket, with West Indies and Australia visiting England over the next few months.

And the World Cup winner is excited about the potential within the current national set-up.

“Most of the time, you feel like it’s fairly easy to pick your first-choice XI for England, but at the minute there’s real strength in depth," said Gunn.

“That’s testament to the work that [coach] Mark Robinson has done with [captain] Heather Knight – they can probably pick from a pool of around 30 really good players, and our friendlies are keeping people in form and exposing them to the right level of players so we’re ready for the games to come this summer.”

Head Coach Martyn Kiel has made one change to last weekend's squad, with Yvonne Graves returning in place of Jodie Cook.
