Six wickets for Ravichandran Ashwin and three for Liam Patterson-White helped Notts to make a promising start to their Specsavers County Championship clash with Surrey.
Ashwin took his Notts tally to 17 wickets, while Patterson-White proved a more than capable foil for the India international as the visitors were dismissed for 240 at Trent Bridge.
Notts lost Ben Slater early in their reply, but Jake Libby and Tom Moores shepherded the hosts to 20-1 at stumps.
