The power of the Trent Bridge Community Trust’s Peer Mentoring programme has been demonstrated by a recent story in which one of our mentors helped a younger child to overcome a barrier in their life.
The mentor, who attended a peer mentoring programme three years ago, had been approached by the parent of the child, who was being bullied and had asked for help.
The mentoring programme gave this young person the desire to help, and the tools to understand how to help.
The Trust are now ensuring that additional support will be in place for the budding mentor so that they are equipped to help more students in need in future.
The Trust’s peer mentoring programme is delivered through Positive Futures, who help to develop the skills of the young people they come into contact with and raise their aspirations.
During the last decade, 650 young people have received one-to-one mentoring and 40 peer mentors have been trained through the programme.
