Joe Clarke, Nottinghamshire’s recent signing from Worcestershire, has underlined his rising stock as a potential future international with a century for the England Lions.
The 22-year-old scored 107, his first century for the Lions and the 13th of his first-class career, as the Lions posted 266 in their second innings against Pakistan A in Abu Dhabi.
Set 312 for victory, the hosts were swiftly on the back foot after Jamie Porter took the wicket of Khurram Manzoor with the first delivery of the innings.
Mark Wood, whose resourceful unbeaten 36 had earlier helped the Lions post their sizeable target, added the wicket of Shan Masood to his four first innings dismissals to reduce the Pakistanis to 12-2.
The hosts had, however, recovered to 132-2 by the close – requiring a further 179 runs to win on the final day with Abid Ali (57*) and Usman Salahuddin (59*) having added an undefeated 120.
