Nottinghamshire new signing Joe Clarke notched an unbeaten half-century as England Lions enjoyed the best of day two against Pakistan A in Abu Dhabi.

The tourists ended the day with a lead of 189 and six second-innings wickets in hand, after the bowlers had earlier dismissed the hosts for 195.

Durham fast-bowler Mark Wood, famed in these parts for demolishing the stumps of Nathan Lyon to secure England’s Ashes triumph at Trent Bridge in 2015, bowled with pace to take 4-67.

His fellow opening bowler, Essex’s Jamie Porter, was similarly effective - taking 3-22.

Although the Lions had a lead of 45, their situation looked precarious during a collapse to 55-4, before Clarke led an England recovery.

The former Worcestershire man closed the day unbeaten with 61 to his name – his highest score in first-class cricket for the Lions. Sam Billings is unbeaten on 32 at the other end.
