Chris Gibson impressed watching Head Coach Peter Moores with a composed century in Nottinghamshire second XI’s first friendly of the new season, a three-day match at Loughborough MCCU.

The 18-year-old Academy player hit 101 out of the visitors total of 266-9 batting at the top of the innings with an accomplished innings that contained 13 fours and one six.

The Truro-born player also showed his patience on a pitch that had a touch of green about it, with his runs coming from 274 balls as he batted for more than five hours.

His strongest support came from Billy Root, who made 44, as the pair shared 99 for the second wicket in 35.4 overs.

The middle order, however, struggled to get going and all fell for double figures, but Tom Keast (14) offered some useful support.

When the wicket-keeper dragged on, Liam Patterson-White (27 not out) stood firm to help Gibson reach three figures, which he did so with a drive through the offside.

As the opener eventually fell in edging behind, Jack Blatherwick (7 not out) combined with Patterson-White to put on an unbeaten 30 for the final wicket.
