Riki Wessels (44) and Tom Moores (38) ensured Nottinghamshire took a 64-run lead after the first innings at Emirates Old Trafford, before Harry Gurney struck twice late on to leave Lancashire two down with 58 on the board, leaving the hosts trailing by six going into the final day.
Beginning the day on 127-6, Moores and Wessels lifted the visitors to 222 all out on a rain-affected third day, in which the whole of the final session was washed out.
