Five members of the Trent Bridge staff have been pounding the streets ready to tackle the London Marathon on Sunday.

The quintet are running the 26 miles 385 yards to raise money for the Lord’s Taverners, set up to give young people a sporting chance.

All five work in the Club’s Cricket Development team, who work closely with the cricket-based charity in projects in Nottingham and the county.

They aim to raise more than £10,000, hoping to collect at least £2,100 each.

Part of the money is coming from a sweepstake being circulated around the Club where colleagues can guess in what times they will finish.

Meet the five runners below, who are pictured in order from left to right.

Josh Scully, Cricket Development Officer – Teams and Leagues, 29.

“I did this last year and it was my first time, so I was quite nervous, but I will be a lot more relaxed this time.

“I’ve not trained quite as much as some of the other guys, but it’s been OK.

“A lot of our training has been on cold evenings, so to do a very hot day is going to be quite a challenge.

“The Lord’s Taverners are a charity we work with here, particularly in relation to projects working with disabled children, and they fund some of that work, so it’s something close to my heart.”

Matt Wood, Elite Pathway Manager, 37.

“I ran this last year for the Club’s Community Trust and I wanted to experience it again because I know just how good a day it is.

“It will be an aim of mine to beat my time last year, but that is going to be a bit of a challenge given the weather forecast.

“Last year it was about 15 degrees, but this year it is apparently going to into the mid-20s.”

“I’m just hoping between us we can raise some good money for a very worthwhile cause.”

Mandy Wright, Community and Development Manager, 49

“To run this I must be slightly mad, but it’s also the year of my 50th birthday and it’s one of my bucket list things to do.

“”I’ve done two half marathons previously and I thought at the end of those that there’s no way I could ever run the full distance, so the challenge has been set.

“The furthest I have run in training is 20 miles, in freezing cold conditions, and it is going to be boiling hot, so that is going to make it interesting!

“I’ve had a few sleepless nights, but it’s a great charity that we’re working with, so well worth it.”

Gareth Isaac, Cricket Development Officer – All Stars Cricket, 26.

“I’m quite a competitive person, so I thought I would like a challenge and I was inspired by watching people from the Club do it last year.

“I’ve always watched it on television and fancied a crack at it. It’s the first and last time I will do it, it’s safe to say from my training!

“I have really enjoyed the freedom it’s given me to get out and about, if not the difficulty I’ve had in getting out of bed the next day.”

Tim Eatherington, Finance Director, 38

“This will be my first marathon and first really serious run other than going on a treadmill in the gym.

“It’s been hard in training, but I’ve tried to be regimented and follow my plan closely, so there’s no excuses for me not to do it.

“”It’s impressive from my colleagues who are doing it to show this level of dedication, as we have gone up from just a couple of the team doing it last year.

“It’s one thing to give your all to community work in the day job, but another to also give up considerable chunks of free time to support it too, so it’s a great effort from them.”
