Nottinghamshire slipped to their first defeat of the new Specsavers County Championship season after losing their final two wickets on the fourth morning at Emerald Headingley.
Beginning the day on 181-8, still 222 runs away from their target, the visitors lost the wickets of Jake Ball and Harry Gurney, as the home county sealed victory by a margin of 164 runs.
Ball, who made 30, added 66 with Tom Moores, before Ben Coad took two wickets in three deliveries to close out the match and finish with individual figures of 6-81.
Wicketkeeper Moores, who had an excellent games with the gloves, remained unbeaten on 40, just one short of his first-class career-best of 41.
Moores and Ball had frustrated the Yorkshire bowlers on the previous evening, with play not finishing until 7.40pm, and continued in the same vein as Jack Brooks and Coad were kept at bay.
With attacking fields posted, runs came quickly, with both batsmen finding a succession of early boundaries.
On 25, Ball had a moment of concern as an edge flew through the slip cordon, off Coad, and then he almost played on to the next delivery.
The hard-working Coad eventually got his reward as Ball lost his off stump and then Gurney nicked into the hands of Adam Lyth at second slip.
Nottinghamshire take just three bonus points from the fixture, to add to the 20 they gained in last week’s success over Lancashire.
The team are next in action on Friday when they face their third away match in a row at New Road against Worcestershire, who were promoted alongside Notts at the end of last season.
