Samit Patel has won the prestigious Professional Cricketers’ Association MVP prize for 2017 after a superb all-round season.

The 32-year-old was presented with his award by the Chief Executive of the PCA, David Leatherdale, at Trent Bridge this morning (Friday).

Former England all-rounder Patel has played a key role in Notts Outlaws’ white ball trophy double by scoring 539 runs and taking nine wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup and hitting 405 runs and claiming 16 wickets in the NatWest T20 Blast.

He was second in the PCA MVP in both competitions, and also added plenty of points from his Specsavers County Championship performances, where he struck back-to-back centuries in June against Gloucestershire and Leicestershire.

It is the perfect way for the former Kimberley Institute player to celebrate the team’s promotion back to Division One of the Championship, which was confirmed against Sussex at Hove yesterday (Thursday).

Patel has also been shortlisted for the NatWest PCA Players’ Player of the Year award, as voted for by his fellow professionals.

The other players to have been nominated are Essex seamer Jamie Porter, Glamorgan all-rounder Colin Ingram and Surrey batsman Kumar Sangakkara.

The winner will be announced at the NatWest PCA Awards, which will be held on October 4.

“Samit’s finished second in it a few times, so for him to get over the line is testament to how well he has performed this season,” said Head Coach Peter Moores on Patel's MVP success.

“He’s always had good seasons, but this year he’s gone one step better with the way he has excelled across all three formats. It’s credit to him and his maturity as a player.”
