Nottinghamshire’s Academy side were beaten by 78 runs at Plumtree in the Nottinghamshire Premier League match on Saturday.

The hosts chose to bat first and recorded a total of 219-7 from their 50 overs, led by opener Saad Ashraf, who scored 74, and former Nottinghamshire spinner Graeme White’s 44 not out.

Liam Patterson-White took 2-24 and Connor Marshall 2-45 for the visitors, who, in reply, were reduced to 13-5 in the face of some fine bowling from Nottinghamshire second team player Matt Milnes’ 4-28.

Jack Blatherwick top scored with 37 for the visitors, who were all out for 141 in 41 overs, as White added to his runs by taking 4-28 with the ball.

The result leaves the Academy side sixth in the 12-team Premier League, while Plumtree are third.

Nottinghamshire Women, meanwhile, were victorious in their first two ECB Women’s County Championship T20 Division Two matches at Welbeck yesterday (Sunday).

First, they won by six wickets after restricting Durham to 91-7 from their 20 overs, with Widdowson claiming 2-16 and captain Sonia Odedra 2-21.

In reply, the hosts reached their target from 16.5 overs, finishing on 93-4 as Lucy Higham top scored with 29.

In the second match, Nottinghamshire beat Cricket Wales by 62 runs, scoring 187-3 batting first, led by a 159-run partnership between Georgia Boyce, who complied 87, and Jodie Dibble, who struck an unbeaten 78 not out.

The visitors’ chase was limited to 125-5, despite a fine knock from Gabby Basketter, who scored 74, as Rebecca Widdowson took 2-26.
