Nottinghamshire return to Specsavers County Championship action on Monday (August 28) with third place Northamptonshire the visitors to Trent Bridge.
Following their success in the NatWest T20 Blast Quarter Final against Somerset, Notts will be looking to reinforce their place at the top of Division Two after the long T20 stint.
The home side are currently 50 points ahead of Northamptonshire in the County Championship Division Two and will take another step towards returning to the top flight by extending their unbeaten run.
Opener Jake Libby believes the rest of the squad will be ready for the switch to the longer format of the game after he sat out the T20 campaign.
“Obviously the lads have had a bit of a break for the T20 stuff but now we’ll switch straight back into red ball mode,” he said.
“We’ve got a big four games to finish now and we’re in a good spot but we can’t rest on our laurels so we’ve got to really finish well and it’s a big game against Northants.”
The Cornish batsman spent five games on loan at Northamptonshire last year scoring 293 runs, including a century against Derbyshire, and taking a couple of wickets.
Libby enjoyed his short stint with the Club and it now means he knows what to expect when Northants visit Nottingham.
“I loved my time at Northants last year, they’re a really good bunch of lads and they play aggressive cricket, even in four-day cricket they play aggressive and they’ve got some great players,” he said.
“They’re going to come at us hard, we know that, that’s just their style and on their day, they’re a very dangerous side.
“They’ve had a really good season so we’re not expecting an easy game, not by any stretch.”
Libby is one of a number of the Notts squad who have had a breather during the T20 campaign, with new signing Mark Footitt also being rested and First-Class captain Chris Read moving into a coaching position.
But the red ball opener feels that the returning faces and subsequent squad depth is a valuable asset to the Notts side.
“Obviously we’ve had a few retirements and injuries so I think it’s good just to freshen things up,” he said.
“I think as a squad we’ve been pretty good all season, we’ve got good depth in numbers in both white and red ball so hopefully we bring a fresher side to things and we can focus on the red ball.”
