Richard Tennant has been elected Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, taking over from Peter Wright who stood down, after eight years, at the recent AGM.
Tennant joined the General Committee in 2000 and served as Vice-Chairman throughout Wright’s eight-year term at the helm.
During that time, they have seen on-field success as Nottinghamshire won the LV= County Championship in 2010 and the Yorkshire Bank 40 at Lord’s in 2013.
The launch of the Trent Bridge Community Trust, the building of the New Stand and the installation of the Radcliffe Road scoreboard also took place during their time at the head of the Committee.
“It is, of course, a great privilege to be elected Chairman of a Club I have supported throughout my life,” said Tennant.
“Having been Vice-Chairman to Peter for eight years, I am very conscious of the hard work he has put in and how well he has represented the interests of the Club over the years.
“Under his watch the Club has achieved so much and I will do my best to build on that success with the support of my colleagues on the Committee, and a strong Executive led by an excellent CEO in Lisa Pursehouse.
“The speed of change within cricket shows no sign of relenting and, while we will no doubt continue to be presented with significant challenges, we have a clear vision for the future.
“I am relishing leading the next chapter and determined to ensure that we remain a successful County Club and international venue long into the future.”
Wright, the outgoing Chairman, remains on the General Committee and gave Tennant his full backing in the role.
Stuart Foster, a Committee Member since 1990, will, meanwhile, serve as Vice-Chairman for the second time following a previous stint in 1995-96.
Foster spent three years on the Test and County Cricket Board’s Marketing Committee in the mid-90s before serving as the Club’s Chairman of Cricket for 11 seasons starting in 1996.
He was involved in the Management Sub Committees that oversaw the building of the Hound Road Stand, the Fox Road Stand and the Radcliffe Road End.
The 2015 season saw dramatic last-gasp four day victories, thrilling limited-overs contests and an historic Investec Ashes Test, all in the unique surroundings of Trent Bridge.
Next season, we’d wager, will be no less enthralling and frankly we’d hate for you to miss out.
