Stuart Broad, the Nottinghamshire and England fast bowler, has been awarded an MBE on the Queen’s 90th birthday honours list.

The honour is the latest accolade of a stunning year for the 29-year-old, which has included bowling England to historic victories over Australia & South Africa, rising to number one in the world rankings and collecting an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Nottingham.

Bowling Australia out for 60 with career-best figures of 8-15 in August, to all but secure the Investec Ashes for England, was the most high profile and spectacular of Broad’s cricket achievements.

He has, however, been a leading contributor for his country on the international stage for almost a decade, as well as raising in excess of £500,000 through the Broad Appeal for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

“It's an honour and a privilege to be recognised in this way," said Broad. "I’m obviously delighted and very proud. It is a lovely moment for my family too. My parents will be delighted after guiding me into cricket and instilling me with a love of the game from an early age.

“Cricket has been a constant part of my life ever since and I would like to dedicate this honour to all the people that have supported me at different stages of my career. They’ve all helped me fulfil my dream of playing cricket for my country. “

Congratulations to Stuart on this honour, from everybody at Trent Bridge.
