Notts Outlaws are in NatWest T20 Blast action on Friday 21 July 2016 when they play Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston Stadium, 7pm start.
Both sides are on the brink of guaranteeing themselves a quarter-final berth and will be pushing for the points to try and secure home advantage in the knock out round.
Notts go into the match in second place, on 16 points; behind Northants Steelbacks only on run-rate. Birmingham Bears are third on 13 points.
Both have two matches remaining and a win for either on Friday will help further clarify the top positions in the North Group ahead of the final fixtures next week.
Head-To-Head
The two sides have only met on nine previous occasions in the domestic T20 tournament, with Notts shading the head-to-hand meetings with five wins to four.
Birmingham have won the last two meetings, at Edgbaston last year and at Trent Bridge at the start of this season’s competition.
There have been four meetings in Birmingham, with Notts winning in 2011 and 2014, whilst the hosts were successful in 2010 and last year.
Last Time
Notts Outlaws were defeated by seven wickets, under the Duckworth Lewis method, when they went to Edgbaston last June to face the Birmingham Bears.
The Outlaws made 149 for nine from their 20 overs, after being put in to bat, with Riki Wessels top scoring with 39. Oliver Hannon-Dalby shone with the ball for the defending champions by taking four for 29.
Rain interrupted the hosts’ reply and they chased down their reduced target of 98 from 11 overs with four balls to spare.
William Porterfield led the chase, finishing with an unbeaten 37 to his name, after Ian Bell had fallen for 38.
History
2010
On 16 June 2010 the sides met for the first time in the shortest format, with the Bears recording a home win, by five wickets, after chasing down a victory target of 177 with seven balls remaining.
David Hussey had made an unbeaten 81 as Notts posted 176 for six but the home side reached their target with five batsmen scoring over 20.
Since then Notts have won four out of the five meetings, beginning with the 2010 return. The football World Cup was in full swing and the start time of that Sunday fixture was brought forward to 11am so that supporters could get away to watch the England v Germany match.
Notts made 149 for six, with Hussey again to the fore, blazing his way to 56 before his side ruthlessly dismantled the Bears’ reply, bowling them out for just 117.
2011
In 2011 Notts won by 28 runs in Birmingham, with another 56 from Hussey, adding to a belligerent 70 from Riki Wessels, taking the visitors to 193 for seven.
Both Darren Pattinson (5-25) and Luke Fletcher (4-30) returned their best T20 figures with the ball, as Warwicks fell for 165, with Darren Maddy making 61.
Later that summer Notts completed the double over the Bears, winning the return by 10 runs. Alex Hales made 67 out of 173 for six before some late hitting from Chris Woakes got Warwickshire up to 163 for seven.
Played For them Both
Deryck Murray has been back in the East Midlands recently, catching up with family, taking in some cricket at Trent Bridge and also receiving the prestigious Alumni Laureate Award from the University of Nottingham.
The former West Indian international wicketkeeper, one of the best of his generation, played 97 first class matches for Notts between 1966 and 1969.
He scored 3,873 runs for the county, with four centuries, and also claimed 157 catches and took 16 stumpings.
Murray played in 62 Tests for the West Indies and was also part of their all-conquering World Cup winning sides of the 1970s.
He later played in 58 first class matches for Warwickshire, for whom he scored 1773 runs, took 137 catches and made 15 stumpings.
Others to have played for both Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire include Vasbert Drakes, Dilip Doshi, Eddie Hemmings, Daniel Vettori, Anurag Singh, Imran Tahir and Mark Wagh.
