Although 16 wickets fell on day one of Nottinghamshire’s Second XI fixture against Durham, Tom Moores was once again a standout figure with the bat.
The 19-year-old, who recently returned from a short loan stint with Lancashire, followed his explosive 50-over century the previous day with 55 off 47 balls as the home side posted 201 all out after electing to bat at Lady Bay.
Durham were 185-6 in reply, with Ben Kitt and Matthew Carter having taken two wickets each, by the close.
Nottinghamshire’s Club Captain Chris Read, who had been named in the first team squad for the match against Lancashire before electing not to risk his previously injured hand, captained the young second team, who had won handsomely in the white ball fixture on the previous day.
Ashes winner Mark Wood continued his own comeback from injury in the ranks of the opposition.
But the illustrious duo were mere observers as the drama unfolded at pace during the early stages.
Moores took to the crease with the score on 7-2, then watched from the other end as is quickly became 55-5.
Sam Grant and Gurjit Sandhu were Notts' tormenters with the new ball, before Moores unleashed a counter offensive which included five fours and a six, taking the score beyond 100.
The introduction of Wood brought the England under 19s international’s demise however, caught behind as he attempted to punch another ball to the boundary.
Luke Wood, back in action after recovering from a back injury, continued to be positive, striking nine boundaries as his 58 arrived in just 54 balls.
Irish trialist Tyrone Kane scored 36 and enjoyed a partnership of 74 with the 20-year-old bowling all-rounder.
Durham also found life difficult against the new ball as Ben Kitt collected the scalps of Phil Mustard and Callum MacLeod.
Adam Hickey (68), however, rode the storm and anchored the Durham innings with a composed half-century, only for Matthew Carter’s evening session double to peg the visitors back once again.
