A half century from Tom Keast was not enough to prevent Nottinghamshire's Academy suffering a 39-run defeat against Radcliffe-on-Trent CC, at Notts Sports Club.
After winning the toss and electing to the field first, the Notts bowlers had to work hard for their first wicket. In the 19th over, Anis Raza got the breakthrough, dismissing opening batsman Ben Carr for 10; Radcliffe 34-1.
Tom Johnson (9) joined Dan Mason out in the middle and while the number three managed to frustrate the Notts bowlers until the 33rd over, Liam Patterson-White forced him out of his crease leaving Keast to finish up behind the stumps.
Raza took two wickets in consecutive overs; first Rob Sutton for nine and then the prize wicket of Mason (102). The opener, who scored half of the visitors' total runs, was bowled by the off-spinner shortly after reaching his century. Raza finished on 3-50 off 15 overs.
With Radcliffe on 145-5, Anuj Dal played a key role in the last three wickets to fall. Firstly a lightning throw from mid-wicket to run out Jake Fish (18), before the medium pacer dismissed Jacob Devon - Beaker (8) and Connor Marshall (19) in the last overs of the innings.
Set 204 to win, Notts opening batsmen Alex Aldred (6) and Hassen Chaudry (10) began a steady chase, before Ben Savage (3-39) removed both openers - restricting the home side to 20-2 after 10 overs.
Keast and Daj steered Notts to 50, before Sutton (3-26) trapped Daj lbw for 21. Sutton claimed two more wickets in quick succession; Lyndon James for naught and Liam Patterson for five.
Notts found themselves in trouble on 77-5, and despite a half century from Keast, the home-side faced an uphill battle as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Marshall (2-44) bowled Parker-Cole of 10, before dismissing Keast for 72.
With seven overs remaining, and 54 more runs needed for victory, any hope of reaching the 204 target was diminished when Deakin-Baker took two wickets in two balls - Chris Tolley (16) and Louis Bhabra (5).
Notts were unable to see out the 50 overs, when they lost their final wicket - Ben Kitt (3) dragging the ball onto his stumps. The Academy all out for 164, with 2.1 overs remaining.
