As Michael Lumb celebrates his 36th birthday, we look back on our powerful left-hander’s highest score for Nottinghamshire in each of the three formats.
Durham were on the receiving end in both white ball formats, while Derbyshire chased the leather of a double-century in the LV= County Championship in 2013.
Lumb Supreme in Nottinghamshire Draw
Nottinghamshire’s chances of completing a championship double over their East Midlands rivals in 2013 had already been ended by rain.
But, as the sun came out on day four at Trent Bridge, Michael Lumb was able to lead the home side’s charge to maximum batting points.
Lumb, who had already powered his way to a third century in eight innings on the third evening, went on to score a career-best 221 not out, as Notts reached 436 for eight before declaring.
The innings surpassed his previous career-best knock of 219 not out, ironically made at Trent Bridge against Notts, during his time as a Hampshire player and he admitted he had that target in mind.
“I feel good,” he said after close of play. "Probably the best I’ve hit the ball since as long as I can remember.
“It was a nice wicket to bat on and I’m over the moon. It’s just a shame we couldn’t get a result but personally I’m very happy.
“Obviously I got that score here before, so I knew what it was – it was getting touch and go as to whether I’d get there or not but fortunately I got a couple of balls to hit to see me over the line.”
Enjoying a healthy fourth wicket partnership of 123 with nightwatchman Luke Fletcher, Lumb brought up his 150 in 186 balls with 20 fours.
His double hundred, off 267 balls with 26 fours, came from consecutive boundaries off Mark Turner and he reached his new personal best with a pulled six off former Outlaw Mark Footitt.
Dynamic Lumb Helps Outlaws To Record Total In Win
Notts Outlaws posted their highest-ever total in 40-over cricket to defeat Durham Dynamos in their CB40 clash at Trent Bridge in 2012.
With Michael Lumb making a rapid 84 at the top of the order and Chris Read finishing the innings in style, with an unbeaten 71, the home side reached 294-8, after being put in.
Lumb got off to a flyer – six boundaries in his first 30 runs, as Notts ended the fourth over on 35-0, with four of them coming from the bowling of Ben Stokes.
Fifty came up with the final delivery of the sixth over and then Lumb pulled Rushworth over the leg-side ropes for the first of the eight maximums hit during the Outlaws innings.
Mitchell Claydon replaced Stokes and Lumb wasted no time in slapping him into the Fox Road Stand for another six en-route to a rapid 50, off 31 balls with eight fours and two sixes.
After hitting Claydon for four more consecutive boundaries, he was finally bowled from the final delivery of the over, to leave the Outlaws on 128-2; setting the platform for Read’s late fireworks to take the home side to their imposing total.
Replying, Mark Stoneman scored a century for the Dynamos but they were dismissed for 251 with nine balls of their innings unbowled, to lose the match by 43 runs.

Lumb Blitz Takes Durham Apart
Michael Lumb’s 96 off 52 balls saw Notts Outlaws continue their unbeaten start to the 2013 Friends Life t20.
Set 155 for victory, Lumb took the Durham Dynamos bowlers apart in an innings that contained 14 fours and three sixes.
Dealing primarily in boundaries, Lumb powered to his second fifty of the tournament off 30 balls with a rare single off Borthwick.
When the Durham leg-spinner eventually had him stumped, the Outlaws left-hander had powered his way to 96 off 52 balls.
It was, at that time, the Club’s highest individual score in T20 cricket, and it led to an eight-wicket win with 4.3 overs to spare.
“It feels pretty good but more importantly, it's four out of four for us and we’re on a bit of a role away from home,” said Lumb following his powerful Chester-le-Street heroics.
“It was one of those days when everything clicked, so I’m really happy.
“I thought 180 was probably par, so the batters were confident trying to chase that down.”
The 2015 season saw dramatic last-gasp four day victories, thrilling limited-overs contests and an historic Investec Ashes Test, all in the unique surroundings of Trent Bridge.
Next season, we’d wager, will be no less enthralling and frankly we’d hate for you to miss out.
