Notts Outlaws face Worcestershire Rapids on Saturday in the NatWest T20 Blast with the action getting underway at Trent Bridge at 2.30pm in front of the Sky cameras.
Both sides are keenly contesting the upper reaches of the North Group qualifying table and will be hoping to cement a place amongst the top four sides to advance to this season’s quarter finals.
The two teams met at New Road on 18 June with the Outlaws securing a four-wicket victory.
Head To Head
There have only been nine scheduled meetings in T20 cricket so far, between Notts Outlaws and Worcestershire Rapids, due to the two counties usually being filtered into separate qualifying groups.
The Outlaws won the first four meetings, which were played home and away in 2010 and 2011 and have won at New Road on their last two visits.
Today’s guests are bidding to complete a hat-trick of wins at Trent Bridge, having triumphed here in this fixture over the past two seasons.
The other contest, at New Road in 2014, fell victim to the weather and not a ball was bowled.
Last Time
Worcestershire Rapids came to Trent Bridge last July and repeated their victory on the ground of 12 months earlier.
Notts pacemen Harry Gurney and Jake Ball shared five wickets to peg the visitors back to 173 all out but, despite a quickfire cameo from Alex Hales, the Outlaws fell 20 runs short.
A punchy 75 from Tom Kohler-Cadmore had the visitors eying a mammoth total before they lost seven wickets for 56, including their last five for ten runs in eleven balls, to be 173 all out.
Gurney was the main beneficiary as he returned figures of three for 25, while fellow seamer Ball (two for 42) narrowly missed out on a hat-trick after consecutively bowling Joe Leach and Ed Barnard in the penultimate over of the innings.
A home crowd of 10,123 anticipated a match-winning turn from Alex Hales but, after the England opener departed for 47, Worcestershire’s slow bowlers strangled the life out of a Notts innings that ended at 153 for nine.
Played For Them Both
Andre Russell’s stint with Nottinghamshire was unfortunately brief, although eye-catching.
The Jamaican superstar was signed to play in four T20 Blast matches for Notts this season but two of them fell victim to the weather.
He was, however, able to take to the field for the away wins at both Worcester and Derby recently, making scores of 41 and 15, as well as picking up four wickets.
Russell had previously enjoyed a nine-match T20 stint with Worcestershire back in 2013.
Others to have represented both counties include Alex Hales (one match on loan at New Road in 2014), Phil Jaques, Chris Tolley, Bobby Chapman, Paul Pollard, Nadeem Malik, David Lucas and AJ Harris.
