Nottinghamshire’s seconds succumbed to a seven-wicket defeat against Worcestershire despite Sam Wood producing remarkable figures of five wickets for eight runs with the ball.
Worcestershire, resuming their first innings on 150-3 (38 overs), crumbled against the off-spin of Wood, who bowled Nick Hammond for 19, had Will Fraine (87) caught at short-leg by Joe Barrett and Darrel Williams (0) pouched at slip by Matt Carter.
Wood did not let up, bowling Chris Russell (0) and removing Dan Lloyd (0), who was caught at slip by Carter, and Worcestershire were all out for 208; Ben Kitt finishing with 3-55 off 18 overs.
Nottinghamshire commenced their second innings 112 runs behind with 72 overs left in the day out, but succumbed to 213 all-out – with Jake Libby scoring 58, Matt Carter adding 41 and Wood continuing his impressive day by posting 39.
On a turning surface, Alexei Kervezee finished with 7-61 off 22.5 overs.
Worcestershire, therefore, took to the middle needing 102 to win in their second innings; and they produced the goods within 14 overs, closing on 104-3 and winning by seven wickets.
The spin trio of Matt Carter, Billy Root and Connor Marshall each took a wicket in helpful conditions, but not enough runs were on the board for the visitors to threaten victory.
