Alex Hales has signed a two-year contract with Nottinghamshire, committing him to the Club until the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Hales has made 238 appearances in all competitions since debuting for the Club in 2008, with the last 12 months seeing him become an England regular across the Test, One-Day International and T20 arenas.

The 27-year-old averages 39, 40 and 28 in the three respective formats for Notts, and has amassed a total of 88 England caps.

“It’s always a boost when someone like Alex commits his future to the Club because we want to keep our best players,” said Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He’s a player our Members and supporters love to watch because he scores heavily and does so in such an entertaining way.

“The runs he’s scored in a Notts shirt down the years have created an opportunity for him in international cricket across all three formats, and he’s working hard to try and secure that long into the future.

“We’ll continue to support him in those ambitions and get great benefit from his batting when he is available to play for Nottinghamshire.

“Certainly, regardless of what happens on the international stage, there’s going to be a period of county cricket early in 2017 in which he’s very likely to be available, so that’s something to look forward to.”

Hales is ranked seven in the world rankings in T20 cricket having scored a century and seven fifties for his country, since making his debut in the format in 2011.

His explosive white ball striking was in evidence domestically with six successive maximums against the Birmingham Bears back in May 2015 – and a 61-ball 103 against the same opposition in 50 over cricket later that summer.

In red ball cricket, Hales averaged 50 in passing 1,000 first-class runs in both 2014 and 2015, earning a run in Test cricket that has so far yielded five half-centuries in 11 matches.
