One of the biggest games of the season will be played at Trent Bridge on Sunday as Yorkshire travel to face Nottinghamshire with a combined 15 internationals over the two squads.

With the likes of Jackson Bird, the returning Alex Hales and Michael Lumb in Nottinghamshire’s squad and Jonny Bairstow, Gary Ballance and Adil Rashid in the travelling Yorkshire party, the match is likely to be a star-studded affair.

However, the biggest battle over the four days could come down to the number one ranked bowler and number two ranked batsman in the ICC World Test Rankings.

Stuart Broad and Joe Root, two of England’s starlets over the past couple of years, will go head to head at Trent Bridge, battling for early season supremacy between the sides.

Broad returned to Nottinghamshire action in the recent game against Lancashire, whilst the game at Trent Bridge will be Joe Root’s first of the campaign.

The Nottinghamshire seamer has particularly enjoyed Trent Bridge of late, taking 8-15 to help complete a stunning Ashes victory last summer.

Root has also enjoyed a stellar couple of years on the international arena, currently averaging 54.93 in Test cricket including a century, which further backed up Broad’s efforts in historic Ashes victory in 2015.

The Broad v Root battle will be one many will be keen to witness and whether the Notts fast bowler can get the early dismissal or the Yorkshire batsman can get a crucial century, the battle will go a long way to deciding the outcome of the gargantuan clash.

However, Broad’s last outing against the reigning champions will provide good memories for the hosts, the 29-year-old taking figures 7-84.
