Sam Wood, the Nottinghamshire off-spinning all-rounder, added three wickets and a half-century to his first innings ton as the Second XI fixture against Warwickshire ended in a draw.
Wood recorded bowling figures of 3-32 at the Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground as the home side scored 324-3 declared in their second innings.
Then he got the visitors’ pursuit of 322 to win in 55 overs off to a flyer, racing to a half-century in 32 balls with eight fours and a six.
After Wood was out, caught on the boundary off Josh Poysden’s leg-spin for 53, the order of the day quickly became survival.
Notts slipped to 133-7 with 36 overs still to go and Dal (17), Moores (12), Gidman (10), Keast (0), Doheny (10) and Marshall (0) all back in the hutch.
The visitors were grateful, therefore, to Luke Wood – coming in at number seven – for posting his second half-century of the match and securing what previously looked to be an unlikely share of the spoils.
The 20-year-old completed his 50 off 64 balls with five fours and a six, and went on to close unbeaten on 61 off 100.
He received plenty of assistance from the tail as Matthew Carter and Ben Kitt each rounded off impressive matches with the bat.
Carter added 40 to the 49 he posted as night watchman in the first innings, while Kitt’s 24 not out ensured that the young fast bowler had scored 56 runs in the match without being dismissed.
Nottinghamshire closed on 255-8 as both sides secured 13 points from the fixture.
