Michael Lumb has been named as the Sydney Sixers player of the tournament from the 2015-16 Big Bash League.

The 36-year-old had previously been nominated alongside teammates Ben Dwarshuis, Brad Haddin and Moises Henriques.

Being voted as the winner by his fellow players gave the powerful batsman particular pride.

“I’m very honoured and it’s nice that the work we put in came off,” he said, having grafted in the nets with Peter Moores during county cricket’s post-season break in order to be ready for the tournament.

“It’s voted for by the boys, so that makes it special. I’m pretty humbled. It’s nice to get some recognition for how I played.

“Unfortunately it’s bittersweet because we had a bit of a nightmare in the tournament, but they’re a good bunch of boys and we’ll come back fighting next year.”

Lumb provided consistency at the top of the order in his fifth campaign with the men in magenta, amassing 253 runs at an average of 32.

His strike-rate of 133.15 was healthy and the Notts Outlaw played the starring role in a standout victory over the Melbourne Renegades with 63 off 35 balls, including five sixes.

“Michael has been a member of the Sixers from the first season and has contributed every year to the success of the team,” said the franchise's General Manager Dominic Redmond.

“While we may not have found the results on the field this season with the men’s team, Lumby certainly made sure we were in it until the final game."

The 2015 season saw dramatic last-gasp four day victories, thrilling limited-overs contests and an historic Investec Ashes Test, all in the unique surroundings of Trent Bridge.

Next season, we’d wager, will be no less enthralling and frankly we’d hate for you to miss out.
