Nottinghamshire’s Seconds enjoyed the best of the final day of their friendly at Gloucestershire with Will Root scoring a century, a perfect warm up to the Championship final starting Monday.

At the beginning of the final day Notts resumed on 92-3, a lead of 241, with Sam Wood unbeaten on 19 and Root 29*.

Both batsmen raced to their fifties, Wood’s coming off 103 balls whilst Root raced to his in just 64 balls.

The pair had taken the score past 200 and Root went to his century from just 117 balls, including 16 fours before being bowled by George Hankins for 124.

Dan Christian came out with extreme intent, hitting the next five balls off Hankins for 28 in a sequence of 6,6,6,4,6.

By the time lunch came around the pair had taken the lead of 444, Wood unbeaten on 77 and Christian 42* off nine balls, allowing captain Greg Smith to declare over lunch on 295-4.

Miles Hammond and Joe Barrett began the Gloucestershire second innings but in the second over the former was walking back to the Pavilion, Will Gidman removing the opener without scoring.

Skipper Ian Cockbain came in but faced just four balls before he was trapped lbw in the 3rd over by Luke Fletcher, also out without scoring as the hosts fell to 2-2.

Hankins and Barrett took the score to 28 before Christian bowled the former for 14 and in the 23rd over the Australian struck again when Barrett edged through to Moores, Gloucestershire faltering to 43-4.

Jordan Garrett (21*) and James Turpin (8*) took the score to 67-4 by tea where it was decided the game would not go to a definite result so a draw was agreed.
