Pakistan have left out experienced spinner Saeed Ajmal whilst Mohammad Amir also misses out, the 23-year-old available after completing his spot-fixing ban.

Ajmal was the leading wicket-taker, with 24, when England last toured the UAE as the number one ranked nation and were whitewashed 3-0.

However, Yasir Shah, the highest ICC ranked spinner, and Zulfiqar Babar continue their partnership, which has worked so effectively in previous series.

Amir, the youngest player to reach 50 Test wickets, only returned to the sport earlier this year and has played just T20 cricket since.

Elsewhere middle-order batsman Fawad Alam could make a return to Test cricket after a five-year gap as he replaces Babar Azam in the 15-man squad with the series starting on October 13.

The 29-year-old last played against New Zealand in November 2009 but has enjoyed a stellar past 12 months that has included two centuries, a highest of 201, and five fifties.

"Our Test team has been an established team for years now and it is hard to make room for any new player," Haroon Rasheed, Pakistan’s chief selector, said.

"Fawad Alam was in our plan for months now after his performance and we know he had been knocking at the selectors' door for years in fact. We have added him to the squad in a bid to get ourselves ready for the transition after Misbah as we obviously need to have guys like him when our seasoned players fade away."

Elsewhere, the hosts have included Wahab Riaz after the left-arm quick recovered from a hand injury he picked up in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Fawad Alam, Rahat Ali, Azhar Ali, Zulfiqar Babar, Mohammad Hafeez, Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Younis Khan, Imran Khan, Junaid Khan, Shan Masood, Wahab Riaz, Asad Shafiq, Yasir Shah, Ahmed Shehzad.
