Samit Patel believes an improving Nottinghamshire can win the County Championship next season.
Notts finished third, 75 points behind runaway winners Yorkshire, after a dramatic upturn in form in the second half of the campaign.
With young players like Brett Hutton, Luke Wood and Jake Ball establishing themselves, all-rounder Patel, says the only way is up.
"It's definitely possible to catch Yorkshire. Just look at our season," said Patel, who is currently with the England squad in the UAE preparing for a Test series with Pakistan.
"You have the rained off game at Hampshire, at Lord's we could have killed that off, Somerset at home and away, Durham away, we could have won all of those.
"This team will mature and improve. There's a hunger and desire for first team cricket here.
"To have so many homegrown players coming through is outstanding.
"We were unfortunate in T20, we played really well in the 50 over format and to play how we have in four day cricket has been excellent.
"We've been knocking teams over and the youngsters have come on well. Luke, Brett and Jake have been excellent."
Patel is hoping for a big winter before returning to Notts for the 2016 campaign. He was a late call-up to England's Test squad after Surrey spinner Zafar Ansari dislocated his thumb.
The 2015 season has seen dramatic last-gasp four day victories, thrilling limited-overs contests and an historic Investec Ashes Test, all in the unique surroundings of Trent Bridge.
Next season, we’d wager, will be no less enthralling and frankly we’d hate for you to miss out.
