Over the years Nottinghamshire has had a number of different overseas players ranging from explosive batsmen to classy leg spinners right through to county stalwarts who were with the club for a number of seasons.

Whilst the English domestic summer might be over, these players continue to perform all around the world as international cricket and Australian domestic leagues take over for the winter months.

Here is a round up of performances from former Outlaws over the past week featuring results from the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup (Australia), Momentum One Day Cup (South Africa) and the ODIs between South Africa and India.

Dan Christian (Victoria) v Adam Voges (Western Australia)

These two Australian’s have represented Notts in different guises over the years, Christian signed in 2015 specifically for one day cricket whilst Voges enjoyed five years at Trent Bridge, between 2008 and 2012, playing in all formats. Back home they represent Victoria Bushrangers and Western Australia respectively in the Matador Cup and faced off against each other in the tenth game of the season.

In a relatively low scoring affair, Victoria were indebted to Christian’s patient 66-ball 60, with just two fours and two sixes, as they posted 225-8 from their 50 overs. Despite 64 at the top of the order from Cameron Bancroft and 27 from captain Voges, WA fell to 189 all out to lose by 36 runs, Christian adding a wicket to his earlier half-century.

Voges enjoyed better fortune later on in the week though, captaining his side to a 246-run victory over Cricket Australia XI. Conversely, Christian’s Victoria sit second bottom after falling to a 17-run defeat at the hands of South Australia.

Imran Tahir – South Africa

Currently involved with South Africa in their One Day International series with India, Tahir joined Notts for three 50-over matches and one Championship game before injury ended his spell in England. Back on the international scene, the leg spinner has been influential in his the three-match ODI series so far.

In a high-scoring first game, Tahir backed up the brilliance of an AB de Villiers-inspired batting performance to take his side to a narrow five-run victory. Chipping in with the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, who had smashed 150 at the top of the order, and the explosive Suresh Raina to finish with 2-57.

He carried that form in to a losing cause in the second ODI, adding Ajinkya Rahane and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to his list of Indian victims. Batting at number ten, a huge six just after he had arrived at the crease wasn’t enough to help his side over the line as India drew up the series heading in to Sunday’s decider with a 22-run victory.

Ed Cowan – New South Wales

Former Nottinghamshire and Australia opener Ed Cowan has continually performed at Australian domestic level and 2015 looks like it will prove no different.

The left-hander began the Matador Cup with a 100 in a winning cause and the New South Wales opener has made some telling contributions over the past week. Playing second fiddle on both occasions, to two further NSW centurions in Nic Maddison and Australian captain Steve Smith, Cowan has followed up his hundred with knocks of 47 and 22 to help his side to consecutive victories.

Vernon Philander – Cape Cobras

Another one of Nottinghamshire’s overseas recruits in 2015, Vernon Philander, is currently in action for his domestic side in South Africa, the Cape Cobras having struggled with injury throughout the year. Despite showcasing his all-round abilities in the Cobras’ first game of the Momentum Cup he was unable to help his side to victory as the Highveld Lions cruised to an eight-wicket win.

Philander began the day by smashing an unbeaten 28-ball 50, with five fours and two sixes, to help post 270-5 before his early wicket gave the Cobras a perfect start. However, centuries from Lions captain Stephen Cook and Alviro Petersen allowed the hosts to canter to victory with 34 balls remaining, Philander finishing with 1-37 from his eight overs.
