England’s youthful squad will go to Ireland with a point to prove according to Outlaws opener Alex Hales.

The right-hander is part of a 13-man squad, which includes seven uncapped players, travelling to Dublin for the one off One Day International.

And the 26-year-old, who has played 33 T20 Internationals and nine ODIs for his country, believes that a number of players will be keen to use the game as a stepping-stone.

“Every man in that squad will be out to put in a good performance and for some that could be their breakthrough game,” he said.

“I am looking forward to teaming up with the likes of Jason Roy and James Vince who are both super talented and power hitters at the top of the order.

“From the start of the season my main aim was to make that Ireland squad and fortunately I have found some good form for Notts and done just that.”

Hales is also looking forward to playing under Outlaws teammate James Taylor, who will be captaining the national side for the first time.

“James is a brilliant choice as captain for the side having done it last year with the t20 and 50 over sides for us and I am sure he will love the opportunity,” he said.

“The fact that he leads from the front with the runs that he scores makes him such a valuable captain and I think he will do well with England.”

Ireland go in to the game having been knocked out of the group stages of the ICC World Cup, but came away from the competition with three wins, one more than their opponents.

Hales knows they will be in for a tough time when they travel across the border as the game marks one of Ireland’s only matches of 2015.

“It will always be a tough game playing in front of their supporters in conditions they will know better than us,” he said.

“They will always be gunning to beat England and it will be up to us to perform at our best in order to pick up the victory.

“The lack of games in the year for them is a great motivation for their side to go out and make a point which will only make it tougher for us.”
