Brendan Taylor admitted his back-to-back centuries for Zimbabwe would have been far sweeter had they both not been in losing causes.
The 29-year-old, who has signed for Nottinghamshire ahead of season 2015 subject to ECB approval, followed his 121 against Ireland with 138 in his country’s six-wicket defeat to India in Auckland today.
Both matches, however, ended in defeat for the Zimbabweans whose ICC Cricket World Cup campaign is now over.
“Getting a hundred in a World Cup for you country is always very special,” Taylor said.
“Unfortunately they were both in losing causes. It would have been a lot sweeter if we’d got over the line.”
The stand-in skipper admitted that mistakes at key moments had cost his side during the course of the tournament.
“We’ve played some brilliant cricket, but we’ve been shoddy at times and that has really hurt us.
“There hasn’t been a lot in it; just a few dropped catches, finishing off our bowling at the end and losing wickets at crucial times.”
Taylor believes his side did well to post 287 after falling to 93-4 in the 23rd over, but admitted the total was someway short of competitive.
“After 15 overs I would have taken 280, but we should probably have got around 310-320 which could have made a little bit of difference.
“They played the better cricket and there’s no surprise they’re top of the log.
“I’m sad that it’s ended but it’s been a joyful ride and one I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.”
