England fast-bowler Chris Jordan has praised the ‘electric’ atmosphere of Trent Bridge ahead of Wednesday’s 50-over clash between England and New Zealand.

The Sussex paceman is set to miss out on the fixture with a side injury, meaning his wait to play an international match at the venue continues. Having experienced such an occasion as 12th man, it’s an ambition he is keen to realise in the future.

Speaking in the aftermath of the recent LV= County Championship fixture between Nottinghamshire and Sussex, having been named in the squad and prior to suffering his injury setback, Jordan was full of praise for Trent Bridge, both in terms of the quality of the surface and its ability to attract sizeable crowds.

“I 100% really enjoy playing at Trent Bridge,” Jordan said. “It’s always a good crowd and a really good pitch.

“I haven’t actually played an international at the ground, but I was 12th man once and the atmosphere was electric.

“I thought then that I’d really love to play here in an international game one day.”

Jordan also handed compliments to Nottinghamshire’s current England international duo of Alex Hales and James Taylor.

“I’ve been in the last few ODI squads with them now and I’ve got to know them really well,” he said.

“They’re excellent lads and two exciting players – very different players, but both very exciting.

“Hales is very aggressive at the top of the order. He hits a lot of sixes, while Titch is more of a gritty player but when he gets going, he can also hit the ball out of the park.

“They’re a pair of really exciting players and I’m just looking forward to joining up and working with them again.”

Eoin Morgan’s side face a one-off NatWest International T20 against the Black Caps at the conclusion of the current 50-over series, followed by a similar programme of matches against Australia later in the summer. And Jordan believes England couldn’t have asked for a more testing duo of assignments.

“Australia and New Zealand are numbers one and two in the world, they’re the World Cup finalists and they are two very good ODI outfits,” he said.

“It’s a challenge but it’s an opportunity for some young players to really stand up and show that we can perform at that level.”

Jordan, together with injured Yorkshire fast bowler Liam Plunkett, have been replaced in the England party by Somerset twins Craig and Jamie Overton.
