Nottinghamshire’s Academy travelled to Attenborough on Saturday and came home with a welcome six-wicket victory thanks mainly to the contributions of Adam Tillcock and Anuj Dal.
Tillcock took 4-36 from his 15 overs to restrict the hosts to 180-9 before Dal set up the successful chase with a half century.
Attenborough won the toss and chose to bat first, opening with Sam Clulow and Saad Ashraf and had added 30 in eight overs before Ben Kitt bowled the former for 14.
Craig Heiden joined Ashraf but Tillcock removed both men LBW, Heiden out for 11 before the latter fell for a battling 13 off 77 balls.
Ben Bhabra and Martin Shoemaker were the new batsmen and they brought the 100 up in the 31st over, adding 42 for the fourth wicket in the process.
Tillcock was amongst the wickets again as he had his third LBW of the innings, Bhabra for 13, before Shoemaker fell for 33, caught and bowled by the left arm spinner, the hosts falling to 111-5.
Andy Simkiss (5) and Jack Harrison fell to Kitt (3-53) in quick succession before Dominic Harvey (19) and Stanny Simon (22*) pushed their side up to a defendable 180-9.
The Academy replied with opener’s Joe New and Jake Libby but found things difficult against the opening attack of Simon and Harvey.
New fell caught and bowled to the latter for 12 before Libby was bowled by Simon for 14, the Academy falling to 35-2 in the 13th.
Dal joined Tom Keast and the pair gradually forged a partnership of 86 for the third wicket before Keast was run out by Heiden for 46 with the score on 121.
Dal reached his fifty in the 39th over, now accompanied by Tom Moores, but with the last ball of the 42nd over Dal was caught behind for 59.
Adam Tillcock joined Moores and they slowly pushed towards the target which they reached in 48.2 overs, the final score 182-4, Tom Moores unbeaten on 24 and Tillcock unbeaten on 18 to add to his earlier four wickets, a welcome win for the Academy by six wickets.
