Nottinghamshire’s Seconds fell to an innings and 82-run defeat in their friendly with Somerset despite a fifty from Will Root, as Jack Leach backed up his first innings hundred with 5-59.
Leach was not out on 123 before Somerset declared on their overnight 450-7, the first 40 minutes of day three lost to rain.
Anuj Dal and Jake Libby began the second innings for Notts 246 behind and had added 29 for the first wicket before two quick wickets fell.
Dal hit Oliver Sale’s second ball for 17 before Libby edged Bobby Gamble to third slip in the next over, both wicket falling with the score on 29.
Root and Tom Moores took their side to lunch with the score on 46-2, Root on 12 and Moores on 5.
Resuming after lunch, the fifty came up in the 23rd over but in the 33rd Moores (10) was adjudged LBW to Leach and Adam Tillcock joined Root with the score 89-3.
Tillcock fell soon after though, deceived by a ball from Tim Rouse and bowled without scoring before Connor Marshall was dismissed next over, caught behind off Leach, Notts falling to 93-5.
Skipper Paul Franks was now with Root who at the time was on 42 and looking the most comfortable with the home sides’ attack.
The hundred was reached in the 40th over and with second ball of the 41st over Root reached his fifty from 91 balls.
However, he was caught at short leg off Leach in the same over bringing Tom Keast to the crease.
In the 50th over Franks (4) was caught at first slip by Adam Hose off Rouse, the score 124-7, Simon Webster coming in.
However, he faced just seven balls before being caught behind for four, Leach reducing the visitors to 129-8.
Notts eventually fell to 164 all out as Tim Wyatt was trapped LBW for one and Keast last man out, LBW to Leach for 32.
The Somerset spinner finished with 5-59 as the hosts ran out convincing winners, by an innings and 82 runs.
