Nottinghamshire’s Second XI shared seven wickets on a rain affected Day 2 against MCC Universities at Fenner’s.
Responding to the visitors’ 350-5 declared, which featured opening day centuries for Jake Libby and Billy Root, the students closed the day on 242-7, despite the loss of almost three hours to rain.
Following Nottinghamshire’s mid morning declaration, the MCC took lunch at 70-2 with Will Gidman and Brett Hutton having each made an early breakthrough.
Steve Bullen had by then been forced to retire hurt having collected an injury running between the wickets - and Gidman reduced the MCC to 70-3 by clean bowling Harry Ellison for 35 with the second delivery after the interval.
Joe Tetley and Thomas Curren added 70 for the fourth wicket before Luke Wood made the breakthrough as Tetley was caught behind for 37. Moments later the rain began to fall.
Upon the 6.02pm resumption, Ben Kitt had Liam Watkinson caught at slip for 20 and there was two late wickets for the slow-left arm of Adam Tillcock, including that of Bullen, who returned to the crease to no avail and was dismissed for nine.
Australian born Cullen, of Cardiff University, will commence the third and final day eleven runs short of a century.
