Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s 8,342 Members for the 2015 season is the largest number in the 174-year history of the club.
The figure represents a 15 percent increase on the 2014 total of 7,257 and is one of only five occasions that the number has exceeded 8,000, with all four of the previous occasions having occurred in the 1950s.
The junior and under 21 categories have seen increases of 12 and 23 percent respectively, something Chief Executive Lisa Pursehouse believes bodes well for the future.
“Attracting the highest membership in our history is a significant achievement for the Club,” Pursehouse said.
“It’s particularly pleasing that the number of young people joining has risen so steeply, and we’re very keen to sustain their support into the future.
“Our members are a really important part of our Club and the growth in this area is testament to the work of the whole team here at Trent Bridge. All the staff work hard to provide the best possible experience for people that attend our matches.
“My message to the Members is thank you, please continue to be supportive, spread the word and help us make sure cricket remains the sport of choice in our county.”
Over 1,000 of the 8,342 total are new Members and although one of the benefits is a priority-booking window for international cricket at Trent Bridge, only 42 percent of Members have purchased international tickets this year, suggesting a strong appetite in Nottinghamshire for domestic cricket, as well as the international game.
“It makes me very proud to be captain of this side,” added Club Captain Chris Read. “You only have to look out at the ground here at Trent Bridge to realise you are playing somewhere special and contributing to the history of this famous club.
“The majority have been supporting us for many seasons and hopefully will continue to do so for many more to come.
“In recent years we have been competing on all fronts and I would like to think the style of cricket we play is, in the main, pretty exciting.
“This season thus far hasn’t gone quite according to plan and we are desperate to make improvements.
“We feel the responsibility to perform, to win trophies and to give our Members and supporters something to cheer.”
With 17 scheduled days of home cricket remaining in the season after the conclusion of the current fixture versus Middlesex, Membership remains on sale priced at £26 for under 16s and £36 for 21s.
