England will look to regroup and counterattack in the second match of the Carlton Mid Tri-Series, facing an India side who suffered a four-wicket defeat to Australia in their first contest.
With their opponents similarly ruffled by Australia’s Mitchell Starc, Eoin Morgan’s men will attempt to capitalise and use victory over India to springboard their push into the ICC Cricket World Cup.
England look likely to recall a fit-again James Anderson to their side, and batsman Joe Root has welcomed the experienced seamer’s return to the setup.
“He’s got massive experience, he’s a big part of the dressing room and can only strengthen our squad,” he said.
He’ll swing it. He’s bowled at the death a lot, he has a lot of skills and in these conditions and on this wicket, he’ll be hard to come up against.”
England will approach this fixture with added bite, having toiled against India on home turf in the summer, though under different conditions in the unique surroundings of The Gabba in Brisbane, it will be a very different contest to the ones played in England.
Their pre-match preparations were augmented by the return of a familiar face to the England setup. Andrew Flintoff, in Australia as part of the Big Bash League – winning fans across the world for his broadcasting skills as much as his efforts on the field.
"To get the opportunity to have your heroes around and learn from guys that have been big characters in the dressing room, and been fantastic players for such a long period of time, it's great to get their experience and chat to them about the game," added Root.
India are likely to be unchanged for the match, given that Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are yet to reach full fitness.
