Alex Hales and James Taylor have been selected by England for the forthcoming white ball cricket against Australia.

Hales, who featured at the top of the order throughout the Royal London One-Day Series against New Zealand earlier in the summer, is included in the T20 and 50-over parties.

Taylor, who was an unused squad member in the same series but played every game in the ICC Cricket World Cup, has been named for the five match 50-over campaign.

Nottinghamshire fast-bowler Stuart Broad, whose match-winning spell of 8 for 15 all but secured the Ashes at Trent Bridge a little over a fortnight ago, is rested alongside Joe Root and James Anderson.

Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes return to the limited-overs squad having previously been rested and injured respectively. Essex fast bowler Reece Topley, named in the T20 squad, is the only uncapped player in either party.

“We have made some significant progress in our limited overs cricket this summer and the next six games allow these players to continue testing themselves against one of the very best sides in the world," said National Selector James Whitaker.

“This is primarily a young group of players and the next three weeks will provide them with valuable experience as we continue to identify players who can take our limited overs cricket forward over the next four years.

“On behalf of the selectors I would like to wish Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss all the very best for what I’m sure will be a very competitive and entertaining series.”
