Regardless of whether he’s representing Nottinghamshire or England, Stuart Broad just loves playing at Trent Bridge.
Speaking ahead of the Fourth Investec Ashes Test match starting on Thursday, Broad insisted that he’s not allowing being one wicket away from 300 to be a distraction.
The 29-year-old did admit, however, that it would be an honour to achieve the feat at his home ground.
“It’s going to be a great week playing here at my home ground Trent Bridge, I love bowling and batting here and the atmosphere is always good.
“I’m a bit biased being a local boy, but it’s a great place to play.
“I love playing here for Notts and I love playing here for England. It’s a great ground and we do get fantastic support here."
Speaking about joining Fred Trueman, Bob Willis, Ian Botham and his good friend James Anderson in England’s 300-club, Broad admitted it would be special to reach the milestone on home turf.
“It would be a dream come true to get it here,” he said.
“To have my parents here, my grandma is coming along, it would be a special place to get it.”
Broad, who has become accustomed in recent times to sharing the new ball with Anderson, praised the decision to allow the Lancashire right-armer to remain with the squad despite injury.
“Great decision to have him around here this week. He's such an integral part of the squad and he extracts the most out of this wicket than any bowler I’ve seen.
“I’m gutted for him that he’s missing this Test match, but I genuinely believe he’s confident of making the Oval.
England will select one of three potential replacements for Anderson and, if Durham paceman Mark Wood gets the nod, Broad is backing him to be successful.
“If his body gets through the treatment he’s had, he will be in a great position to play,” said Broad.
“He’s done well with the bat, he’s taken wickets with the ball, and he’s looked threatening.
“I’m a big fan of his and if he’s fit then he’ll be in a good position to play, I would have thought.”
