James Tredwell was happy to get "miles in the legs" after England dominated the first of two warm-up matches against a St Kitts Invitational XI ahead of the Test series against the West Indies starting next week.

The Kent off-spinner took 3-35 from his 14 overs as the tourists went close to securing victory within the confines of a two day fixture against opponents that struggled to compete against their international opposition with either bat or ball.

"We'd have liked a sterner contest but you play the cards you are dealt and get on with it," the 33-year-old said.

"A little bit of a sterner contest would have been handy, but it's time in the middle and you don't necessarily want to start the tour with a long day in the dirt early on either.”

Following the one-sided affair, the second two day game between the teams, which started today, will be be played to a different format.

England have agreed to bowl for the entirety of the first day before roles are reversed on day two, giving both the batting and bowling departments ample practice.

“The chat about Wednesday was that we would try and bowl for a full day to get the 90 overs in our legs, two or three spells for the bowlers, and bat on the last day for a long time,” he said.

"If we spend the whole day in the field it's probably more important than anything else and it's really about time in the middle and miles in the legs."

Having not featured during England’s ICC Cricket World Cup campaign last month, Tredwell is hoping to be more involved during the tour of the West Indies, despite competition for his place from Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

"I felt I'd play a full part in what was coming up and when that didn't happen I was disappointed," he said. "I don't think I'm out of place in saying that.

"Both Adil and I like to put a game on out there and leave it for other people to decide between us. But the ball is coming out nicely at the moment and I'm just hankering for the opportunity."
