Late wickets from Brett Hutton and half centuries from Greg Smith and Adam Tillcock ensured Nottinghamshire seconds enjoyed the best of day one in their friendly against Leicestershire.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Smith and Anuj Dal put on 31 before Alex Wyatt bowled the latter for 15.
Smith reached his half-century from 72 balls and had put on 56 with Sam Johnson before Matt Wareing had Johnson caught behind by Lewis Hill for 23.
Brett Hutton joined Smith, the hundred coming up off the last ball of the 26th over and the pair progressed to lunch with the score on 129-2, Smith 68* and Hutton 14*.
Their partnership didn’t progress much further after the interval; Hutton trapped LBW for 16 and Smith caught behind without adding to his score at lunch.
Tillcock and Joe New pushed the score past 150 before a further two quick wickets fell leaving the score on 183-6.
New edged through to wicketkeeper Hill off Wyatt for ten and Connor Marshall fell to the fourth catch of the innings for Hill, out for nine off the bowling of Wareing.
Luke Wood helped Tillcock, who ended the session 73*, guide the visitors through to tea for the loss of no further wickets and with the addition of 55 runs.
Tillcock was unlucky not to reach his century following the break, falling LBW for 89 off a ball from James Sykes that stayed low.
Two wickets in one over from Wyatt then reduced Notts to 289-9, Wood’s stay ended on 42 when he his the bowler straight to Zac Chappell at mid-off.
Captain Paul Franks ensured the visitors set a good total in their first innings, his 32 pushing the score up to 323, Wyatt finishing with figures of 4-32.
Sixteen overs were left for Notts to make inroads and they did just that through Hutton.
In the 8th over he removed Matt Boyce for three before dispatching fellow opener Dan Redfern for seven to claim the first two wickets with just 15 runs on the board.
Aadil Ali lasted just six balls before edging through to Joe New for Hutton’s third, the hosts struggling on 17-3.
Hutton or Wood couldn’t further strengthen the Notts advantage before the close, Matt Pardoe (11*) and Hill (8*) seeing their side to 31-3 by the end of the day.
The impressive Hutton finished the day with figures of 3-17 from his eight overs, backing up the earlier effort of the batsmen.
