Brett Hutton earned standout figures with the ball as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI were made to work hard for their wickets on day two against Lincolnshire.

The 22-year-old all-rounder finished with figures of 4-37 from 15 overs at Sleaford, as the home side declared their first innings 30 behind on 344-7.

Notts had reached 77-3 by close of play – an overall lead of 107 with an intriguing final day in prospect.

Despite early rain, the second day started on time with Lincolnshire resuming on 43-0.

Hutton’s first wicket arrived seven overs in as Ross Carnelly edged behind for 40, ending his opening stand with Saad Ashraf with the total on 75.

Lincolnshire number three Louis Kimber faced just half-a-dozen deliveries before nicking the same bowler to second slip.

And Hutton’s purple patch continued when Mykyla Bird was lbw for a duck, meaning 75-0 had quickly become 79-3.

Karanjit Bansal elected to go on the counter-offensive, dominating the scoring in a fourth wicket stand of 56 with Ashraf before the latter was lbw to Tillcock’s left-arm spin for 39, making the score 135-4.

Hutton was in the game again prior to the lunch break, producing a swift pickup and throw at silly-point to dismiss James Dobson after the Lincolnshire batsman had stretched out of his ground to a ball from Tillcock.

The home side took lunch at 177-5 – a score that quickly became 177-6 as Bansal was caught on the long-leg boundary for 79, handing Hutton his fourth wicket of the day.

The visitors were looking set for a hefty first innings lead, but they were held-up by one if their own as Nottinghamshire Academy prospect Matthew Carter joined Luke Robinson at the crease and the pair added 166 for the seventh wicket.

Robinson’s fifty came in 62 balls with five fours, while Carter reached the milestone in one ball fewer with six boundaries and a six.

It took Robinson just 36 further deliveries to convert 50 into 100, in 108 balls with 13 fours. He was out shortly afterwards, bowled by the off-spin of Sam Wood, for 101.

Tea was taken with Carter unbeaten on 68 and with the score on 344-7, at which point the home side opted to declare.

Nottinghamshire’s trialist opener George Munsey was unable to repeat the first innings heroics that saw him score an unbeaten 172 on day one’ the Scot was bowled by John Peck for eight.

Wood, batting at number three, scored 29 before nicking to first slip with the close of play in sight.

Opener Anuj Dal was caught behind for 36 off the final ball of the day.
