Nottinghamshire's Second XI have won two matches from two so far this season after their young bowling attack dismissed Essex for 221, paving the way for a nine-wicket victory.

The visitors to Billericay eased to the victory target of 62 late in the day, with Sam Wood and Anuj Dal sharing an unbeaten half-century partnership.

Nottinghamshire started day two eight wickets down in their first innings with 226 runs already on the board in reply to the home side's 98 all out.

Luke Wood and Simon Webster built steadily on the total during the opening 16 overs before Webster was bowled by Monty Panesar for 12.

The England left-arm spinner then trapped Matthew Carter lbw for nought, leaving Wood unbeaten on 24 with Notts 258 all out - a first innings lead of 160.

Panesar finished with figures of 4-42 for the home side while Pakistan born pace bowler Zain Shehzad also claimed four wickets.

Essex's reply began sedately with Liam Gough and Mark Pettini posting 18 in the opening ten overs before Pettini's middle-stump was flattened by Luke Wood.

The young Notts left-armer, who had taken 3-21 in Essex's first innings on the opening day, ten trapped Tim Morton lbw for a duck as lunch was taken with the score on 39-2.

During the afternoon session, Sterland carved out his fifty off 62 balls with seven fours, before edging a ball from Brett Hutton to keeper Tom Moores in the 34th over of the innings.

Carter had Gough caught and bowled for 17 in the very next over to leave Essex 96-4, before the visitors endured a period of frustration as Michael Bates and David Brent added 54 runs for the fifth wicket.

The partnership was broken when Bates was lbw to Sam Wood for 40, after which he - together with Adam Tillcock, Connor Marshall and Brett Hutton - combined to mop up the tail either side of the tea interval.

Sam Wood's impressive day then continued with the bat as, chasing 62 to win, the all-rounder scored 26 not out in an unbroken second wicket stand of 56 with Anuj Dal that took Paul Franks' men over the line for an eye-catching victory.
