Brett Hutton combined all three cricketing disciplines to great effect as Nottinghamshire won against Loughborough MCCU on the third and final day of the Second XI friendly yesterday.
The 22-year-old scored 99, took a wicket and clung-on to two slip catches as the students were all out for 179 chasing 321 for victory, with 18-year-old off-spinner Matthew Carter taking 3-28.
Nottinghamshire began Day 3 leading by 234 runs at 161-3 and, despite losing his overnight partner Adam Tillcock for five, Hutton passed 50 in 61 balls with seven fours and a six, before racing to one short of three figures inside a further 14 overs.
The 22-year-old was eventually stumped and the visitors declared on 247-8 shortly before lunch.
Hutton was not, however, out of the action for long; backing-up Luke Wood's early breakthrough by dismissing Charles Lowen caught behind for nine then taking a pair of catches at first slip, both of Franks, reducing the home side to 47-4.
Matthew Stiddard showed resistance for the students in scoring 36 before offering a catch to cover off the bowling of Elliott Bowles. Carter followed that breakthrough by clean bowling Timothy LeBreton for tenshortly before tea was taken at 115-6.
The teenage twirler, who toured Barbados with the first team this pre-season, pouched Basil Akram, caught and bowled for five, then completed his evening's work with the dismissal of Atizaz Khan to a catch by Ben Kitt, making the score 147-8.
Shelvin Gumbs passed 50 for the home side in 57 balls with three fours and three sixes, before watching from the non-strikers end as Hamzah Khan was trapped lbw by Tillcock for eight to put the young Nottinghamshire side in sight of victory.
The Loughborough half-centurion was last man out, again to Tilcock, as he charged down the pitch and was stumped by Joe New, handing Nottinghamshire victory by 141 runs.
