Nottinghamshire bowler Jake Ball is well on the road to recovering from the toe injury that has sidelined him in recent weeks.
Ball shone in the early season LV= County Championship game against Somerset but his spell in the side was short-lived when injury struck.
“A broken metatarsal is unusual in cricket so it was a bit of a freak injury really,” said Ball, who sustained the fracture in his delivery stride, landing awkwardly and ruling himself out of the game for a minimum of six weeks.
“Mentally I’ve had to stay strong, it is frustrating but it’s healing and I’m pleased with my progress.”
Ball is ahead of where he expected to be in terms of his recovery but he’s keen to emphasise that patience is the main remedy right now.
“I’m keen to get back in the game, be it with the white or red ball, but I know not to rush it,” he said.
“There’s talk of me playing for the seconds but I’ll decide nearer the time because I can’t risk a setback when it’s come on so much.”
The next few weeks are crucial to the Mansfield man’s recovery and he, like the rest of the team at Trent Bridge, will be hoping he continues to make positive progress and can return to see out the season.
