Riki Wessels insists he’s happy to remain off the radar when opposing teams assess the merits of the Outlaws’ top order.
Wessels is the leading Notts run-scorer in the NatWest T20 Blast this season with his accumulated tally of 408 punctuated by a sublime 95 against Leicestershire.
“I quite enjoy avoiding the attention and the opposing teams probably put a higher price on the wickets of the players around me,” said Wessels.
“They may feel that they can stay on top of us if it doesn’t come off for the likes of Hales, Lumb, Patel and Taylor but myself and Steven Mullaney have shown that we can make an impact too.

“It’s a great line-up to be part of and there is a lot of ability in the top four but even when we haven’t come off we’ve seen James Taylor put a big innings together to get us over the line.”
Wessels elevation to the number three spot seemed to kick-start a remarkable run that saw the Outlaws emerge from mid-table obscurity to secure a fifth successive home quarter-final.
“There is more responsibility at number three but there’s also more freedom to play positively and to score quick runs which has suited me this season,” he said.
“There’s a feeling that if one of our top four goes big then we can score an imposing total and we’re aware that we’re up against a good side in Hampshire.
“They have won white ball competitions and they’ve become a bit of a fixture at Finals Day but we feel that we have the form to give ourselves the best possible chance of making it through.”
Sunday’s game begins at 2.30pm at Trent Bridge.
